There are a number of really important issues we need to discuss and update you on.

International Workers Memorial Day Commemoration

The 28 April is International Workers Memorial Day. UNISON, the RCN, the RCM and the TUC are calling for a minute’s silence on the day at 11am (https://www.unison.org.uk/news/article/2020/04/remember-covid-19-dead-international-workers-memorial-day/) to remember all those public service workers and others who have died as a result of this crisis and to pressure the Government into providing the PPE and resources to ensure that no more needlessly die keeping us safe.

The proposal is to pause the meeting at 11am to collectively observe the minute’s silence.

The remainder of the agenda will be:

1. Update on SOAS financial sustainability and impact of current crisis (see https://www.theguardian.com/education/2020/apr/23/universities-are-expecting-230000-fewer-students-thats-serious-financial-pain)

2. SOAS proposals on “furloughing” under the Government’s Job Retention Scheme.

3. Update on issues like Health and Safety risk assessments and Annual Leave carry over.

4. Opportunity for members to raise other concerns or questions.

5. AOB

Please make every effort to attend online if you possibly can. If you would like to add anything to the agenda contact Sandy Nicoll, Branch Secretary (an2@soas.ac.uk)
