Facilities and catering workers back in-house!

29 August 2018

SOAS UNISON members working in cleaning; catering; conferencing; security; post room; and reception teams celebrated as their outsourcing to private firms officially ended and they became directly employed by the School on Wednesday 29 August 2018.

SOAS staff previously employed by Bouygues and Elior became full School employees after the victorious Justice for Workers campaign, an eleven year struggle to end outsourcing at SOAS led by SOAS UNISON reps in outsourced facilities and catering sections.

SOAS UNISON hopes the fight by workers to end outsourcing at SOAS, which aimed to ensure everyone working at the School was treated equally, with dignity and respect, can be an inspiration to other trade unionists and campaigners fighting back against privatisation across the education sector and beyond.
