SOAS UNISON members participated in the global climate strike on Friday 20th September to demand action to address the climate emergency, joining pupils walking out of schools and striking workers across the world. The global protests come ahead of the upcoming summit at the UN.
UNISON members walked out at 12.30 pm on Friday alongside UCU colleagues and SOAS students. A short rally was held in front of the SOAS building with staff and students calling for global and local radical action to tackle the crisis.
A large SOAS delegation then left to join the more than 100,000 people at the climate strike protest in central London. A talk took place on campus hosted by UNISON & UCU, focusing on the climate emergency and the need to make the transition to a greener economy a just one that puts working communities at its centre, with speakers from Transition Town Tooting and Agamemnon Otero (Repowering London).
