Message from Ryan Skelton, LGBTQ+ Officer:
Hello, I‘m Ryan, LGBTQ+ rep for SOAS Unison. I would like to take this opportunity to offer as a branch our strongest support for trans rights, considering the most recent Supreme Court gender ruling in England. It is with utmost care that as a branch we strive to continue to advocate making SOAS a deeply inclusive and welcoming environment especially for those who identify as trans, non-binary, intersex or androgynous. We will be vigilant in addressing with action any issues that may arise from these recent events and honour members that may suffer any form of victimisation or harassment. Having discussed the recent Supreme Court ruling and aftermath, we have agreed to organise a working group with UCU colleagues. We will be looking into how to make sure neither SOAS nor the wider UNISON goes backwards on gender equality.
